Driven to win!

Each year we design and build a Baja car to compete in an international competition. Our car's performance is judged on acceleration, hill climb, maneuverability, and rock crawl. We need your help to make our design for the 2017-18 car a reality. Any support is greatly appreciated by all of our members!

Why do we need your support?

Many of the schools our club competes against have been doing this project for more than 10 years, while this is just our third. From materials and parts to group travel and the Baja car's transportation, we're responsible for raising all the funds for this project. Due to our placement levels with last year's car, we are required to creatively construct an entirely new car design, which is why we are looking to you for help.

Our goal

$10,000 will help cover the costs for us to design our very own gearbox, which will shed about 30 lbs off of the car. The decrease in weight should help our overall speed and will be a fun challenge for our group to take on as we prepare to compete this May in Portland, Oregon. Among 200 teams, Gonzaga's SAE Baja car has taken 8th place on the hill climb, 19th in acceleration, and 19th in the sales presentation just within these past two years. We are SAE

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) club is comprised of students with a variety of majors, of all years here at GU — from mechanical and civil engineers to computer science students and accountants — all bring a unique perspective to different aspects of this project. We're SAE members because we either love to learn, love cars, or both! It is a great opportunity to get hands-on learning experience with engineering, machining, design, marketing and teamwork.
